Google Sites Update of 2022: January - July

August 1, 2022

I can't believe how fast time passes! The second half of 2022 is already over, and it's August already. Here are some of the major updates Google has announced in this year's Google Sites.

Site editors can now choose between Compact, Cozy, or Comfortable spacing options for the space between their content on new Google Sites. Newly created sites will start with the Comfortable setting by default.

Adjust content spacing in Google Sites

Users of Google Sites can now add content as a full page from custom code, other websites, and Google apps, such as Maps and Docs. In the past, editors could only add these elements as part of a page. With this update, you can organize and display embedded content more easily.

Embed content as a full page in Google Sites

Custom themes can now be imported from one new Google Site to another. It is now easy to reuse themes across your various sites that align with your organization's brand guidelines.

Import existing custom themes to Google Sites

Google has extended the deadline for customers to migrate from classic Google Sites to new Google Sites.

Here is the new timeline:

  • Starting December 1, 2022 (previously June 1, 2022): You will no longer be able to edit any remaining classic Sites in your domain.

  • Starting January 1, 2023 (previously July 1, 2022): Classic Sites will no longer be viewable unless they are converted to new Google Sites.
